Morrut
Along with the serrana, villalonga, alfafara, blanqueta and farga, it is one of the six main native varieties of the Valencian Community. Its cultivation, with just over 7,000 hectares, extends over the north of Castellón and the south of Tarragona. It is also known by the names of morruda and Regués, the latter being the name of the town in Tarragona where some scholars believe it originated. The word morrut refers to the morphology, and more specifically to the apex of the fruit, with a pronounced nipple in the shape of a snout. This characteristic is common to different varieties of olive distributed throughout Valencia, such as the morruda de Salinas (Alicante), morrut de Benlloch (Castellón) or morrut del Palancia.
